IS MALARIA A PROBLEM IN THE AREA?
Hluhluwe is regarded as a low risk area for malaria. Only in the summer months between November to end of March that one should take extra precautions against malaria. Our suggestion is that you consult with your general practitioner to prescribe the necessary prophylactics. Rooms are air-conditioned with ceiling fans to ensure your comfort. Remember to bring anti mosquito spray or lotion, especially in the evenings when most mosquito activity occurs.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO
VISIT THE HLUHLUWE AREA?
The weather in Zululand is generally warm throughout the year with minimum temperatures varies between 13 – 15 C. In the winter average day temperatures varies between 23 – 26 C. The best weather for Hluhluwe is between April to September which is warm months with a low humidity. Between November and March, the Summer months, it can become very hot and humid. DO I NEED A 4-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE TO TRAVEL TO THE LODGE AND ITS SURROUNDINGS?
No, the lodge is only 500 m of the National road (N2) and is accessible by a normal Sedan car. The roads from Durban and Johannesburg are presently being upgraded and are safe and well maintained.
HOW FAR IS THE CLOSEST AIRPORT?
Durban International Airport – 2 ó hours’ drive Richards Bay – 1 hour’s drive

Unfortunately, interactions with cats are strictly prohibited.
WHAT ABOUT CLOTHING?
Definitely casual wear for during the day (T-shirts and shorts). Very light weight long trousers and long sleeve for the evenings. Sandals and a pair of light weight walking shoes. Sunglasses, hat and sunscreen (high factor). Binoculars are a must and also, do not forget your camera to capture your special memories!
