Is Malaria a problem in the area?
Hluhluwe is regarded as a low risk area for malaria. Only in the summer months between
November to end of March that one should take extra precautions against malaria. Our
suggestion is that you consult with your general practitioner to prescribe the necessary
prophylactics. Rooms are air-conditioned with ceiling fans to ensure your comfort.
Remember to bring anti mosquito spray or lotion, especially in the evenings when most
mosquito activity occurs.
When is the best time to visit the Hluhluwe area?
The weather in Zululand is generally warm throughout the year with minimum temperatures
varies between 13 15 C. In the winter average day temperatures varies between 23
26 C. The best weather for Hluhluwe is between April to September which is warm
months with a low humidity. Summer months can become very hot and humid, between November
and March.
Do I need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to travel to the lodge and its surroundings?
No, the lodge is only 500 m of the National road (N2) and is accessible by a normal Sedan
car. The roads from Durban and Johannesburg are presently being upgraded and are safe and
well maintained.
How far is the closest airport?
Durban International Airport - 2 ½ hours drive
Richards Bay - 1 hours drive
Can the cheetah and other cats be touched?
All visitors can enter the cat camps with a guide and get up-close to the cats. At present
we have some hand reared Serval cats and Caracals/Lynx that can be touched. Although the
cheetahs are fairly tame we do not allow visitors to touch them due to them still being
wild animals.
What about clothing?
Definitely casual wear for during the day (T-shirts and shorts). Very light weight long
trousers and long sleeve for the evenings. Sandals and a pair of light weight walking
shoes. Sunglasses, hat and sunscreen (high factor). Binoculars are a must and also, do not
forget your camera to capture your special memories!
Are transfers available?
Yes, transfers are available from Durban and Richards Bay airports. Prices on request. |
